In the past week, losses caused to Ukraine’s infrastructure during the war unleashed by Russia have risen by more than $ 5 billion in the past week. On Monday, April 4, this was confirmed by data analysis conducted within the framework of the Russia Will Pay project by the team of the KSE Institute (an analytical unit of the Kiev School of Economics) and volunteers from partner organizations.
It is indicated that on April 1, the total amount of damage reached more than $ 68.2 billion, or almost UAH 2 trillion.
Since the beginning of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, at least 533 educational institutions, 300 kindergartens, 196 medical institutions, 129 factories and businesses have been damaged, destroyed or seized.
The Ministry of Community and Territory Development estimates that 6,800 houses were damaged or destroyed. According to the KSE Institute, the total value of damaged/destroyed residential property is approximately 26 million square meters.
In addition, at least 54 administrative buildings, 266 bridges and bridge crossings, 10 military airfields, eight airports and two ports were damaged as a result of the war. 64 religious buildings and 51 cultural sites were destroyed or damaged.
According to general estimates of the Ministry of Economy and KSE, the total losses of the Ukrainian economy due to the war crisis, taking into account both direct losses calculated on this project and indirect losses (decrease in GDP, cessation of investment , labor inflows., additional spending on defense and social support etc.) is from 564 to 600 billion dollars.
It will be recalled that in the first quarter of 2022, Ukraine’s GDP dropped by 16% compared to the same period last year. Industries where remote work is impossible have suffered the most, the Ministry of Economy asserted.
