Only excise duties on gasoline, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products will remain in effect.
The Australian government has decided to remove duties on imports from Ukraine within a year. This was announced on the eve of the country’s Minister of Trade and Tourism Don Farrell.
“The Australian government has announced the removal of duties on Australian imports from Ukraine. This measure, which is part of the support package announced by the prime minister following his visit to Kyiv, will take effect today ( from July 4 – ed.). Such a step should be for similar actions by our international partners, such as the European Union and the UK, “he said.
By 2021, Ukrainian imports to Australia will reach approximately $ 122 million, Farrell said. He also added that the government’s decision provides for the reduction of duties from 5% to zero within 12 months for a number of goods produced in Ukraine. At the same time, excise duties on gasoline, alcohol and tobacco will remain in effect.
“Australia condemns Russia’s unilateral, illegal and immoral aggression against the people of Ukraine. Our current decision demonstrates our commitment to supporting Ukraine’s economy as it addresses the continuing devastating collapse from the aggression of Russia, “the minister added.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden approved the elimination of the 25% duty on steel imports from Ukraine. Duty free import will last for one year.
