To fulfill the government’s duty to accumulate 19 billion cubic meters of gas during the heating season, nearly a third of this volume will have to be imported.
Ukraine needs $ 8 billion to buy gas to bring its storage capacity to 19 billion cubic meters at the start of the heating season. This was announced on Tuesday, June 21, by the head of Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko.
“If you have to have such a large reserve, as the government wants, at the beginning of the heating season of 19 billion cubic meters, it means you have to import about 5.8 billion cubic meters in addition. It means that you have to spend $ 8 billion, a lot of money for Ukraine “, – he said.
According to him, negotiations are now underway with international partners on how much they can contribute “with this money or with this gas.”
At the same time, Vitrenko believes that 15 billion cubic meters of gas will be enough for Ukraine for the heating season. “It’s also a certain level with a margin, and not just a minimum level,” he said.
The leader of Naftogaz explained that this was due to the decline in consumption due to the war.
It will be recalled that the government ordered Naftogaz to store 19 billion cubic meters of gas during the heating season.
