The sanctions imposed against Gazprom prevent the return of a turbine from a Canadian business to Europe.
The concern of German Siemens confirmed that the reason for the significant reduction in gas supplies through the Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline was the long overhaul of the compressor station turbine. This was announced on the eve of the Spiegel news.
It is said that the sanctions imposed against Russian Gazprom do not allow the turbine to be returned to Europe from the Canadian enterprise, where it has been overhauled.
The German government is trying to secure the delivery of a turbine stuck in Canada to resume gas pipeline operation. The aim of the negotiations between the European Commission and the Canadian government is to free the required node from sanctions.
“Turbines are needed to increase the required natural gas pressure in the pipeline. There are still doubts in the industry whether the missing component could explain the failure of 40% of supplies,” the report said.
The publication states that the disruption of gas supplies is likely to affect the volumes entering underground storage. Moreover, from July 11, the Nord Stream will be closed for repairs for 10 days, during which gas will not flow.
The other day, it was reported that Gazprom would reduce gas supplies through Nord Stream 1 by 40% to 100 million cubic meters per day. The reason is the long overhaul of Siemens units at the Portovaya compressor station.
