The interval for conducting inventory checks on NPPs cannot exceed the established duration. This is especially critical in the two ZNPP units, the agency said.
It is possible to restore the remote transmission of data from the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye NPP. But agency specialists are still needed to visit this nuclear power plant. This was announced on the eve of the IAEA website with reference to Director General Rafael Grossi.
“The Director General cited the restoration of data transmission as an important and positive step. At the same time, he stressed that IAEA inspectors should go to the site as soon as possible to take key steps to verify the nuclear materials, which cannot be carried away, “the message said.
Grossi said images captured by IAEA security cameras during the data cutoff are now being uploaded for review by agency inspectors to confirm that data continuity has not been lost.
It is indicated that the interval for conducting inventory checks at nuclear power plants cannot exceed the established duration. This is especially critical in the two ZNPP units. Physical verification of the nuclear material content of these is a requirement for safeguards before they are restarted.
“If I do not send inspectors to carry out the necessary verification in the ZNPP, the implementation of measures in Ukraine will be compromised,” Grossi stressed.
Earlier, the head of the IAEA spoke about the danger to the safety of the Zaporizhzhya NPP. According to him, at least five of the seven essential foundations of nuclear safety and protection have been compromised at the plant.
At the same time, Energoatom banned Grossi from visiting ZNPP. A visit to the station will be possible only when Ukraine regains control of it.
