“On June 1, 2022, Ukraine’s international reserves, according to preliminary data, reached $ 25.1 billion. By the end of May, they dropped by 7%, mainly due to the sale of foreign currency on the interbank market, which was slightly offset by funding from international security, ” – said in the message.
The dynamics of reserves in May were affected by operations to manage public debt: the total volume of payments for servicing and repayment of state debt and guaranteed state in foreign currency amounted to $ 144.8 million equivalent, of which $ 60.2 million directed to payment. of Eurobonds.
Foreign exchange receipts in May amounted to $ 1 billion 66 million equivalent, including 583.7 million euros from the World Bank and 582.3 euros from the EU.
Also, the NBU and the government paid $ 68.6 million in favor of the IMF in May.
The NBU’s operations in the interbank market also affected the dynamics of reserves. In May, the regulator sold $ 3.41 billion in the foreign exchange market and bought $ 56.4 million.
In addition, the dynamics of the indicator was affected by the re -evaluation of financial instruments (changes in market value and the exchange rate of hryvnia against foreign currencies): last month their value increased by $ 63.1 million equivalent .
The regulator also clarified that Ukraine’s net international reserves (NIR) in May fell by $ 1.86 billion, or 11.1%, to $ 16.779 billion.
In April, reserves dropped 4% or $ 1.162 billion. And by the beginning of 2022, international reserves had reached $ 30.941 billion
The NBU has significantly reduced the sale of foreign currency from reserves compared to last week, when a record volume was sold – more than 1,420 million dollars.
