The population’s net foreign currency sales in May reached $ 262.2 million – more than at the beginning of the year.

Ukrainians increased the sale of foreign currency in the third month of the war, according to data from the National Bank in May.

Thus, in the past month, the population has sold cash and non-cash money to banks worth $ 461 million (equivalent) and bought $ 198.8 million. Net sales reached $ 262.2 million.

In total, since the beginning of the year, Ukrainians have sold currencies worth $ 5,243.1 million and bought for $ 4,952.7 million, net sales have reached $ 290.4 million.

It should be noted that in May the National Bank sold a record $ 3.4 billion on the interbank market to maintain the hryvnia exchange rate.

As you know, after the start of the war, the official exchange rate against the dollar was fixed at 29.25 hryvnia. At this rate, the NBU sells foreign currency on the interbank market.
