Since Hungary’s fuel prices are the lowest in Europe, he said, “fuel tourism” has emerged in border areas. Its size poses a threat to the uninterrupted supply of fuel at petrol stations.
Foreign buyers take advantage of the fact that Hungary can keep fuel prices at 480 forints (1.2 euros per liter), while in other European countries they are at the level of 700-900 forints (1.78 – 2.29 Euro), he said.
Starting Friday, only drivers of vehicles with Hungarian license plates will be able to buy fuel at HUF 480 per liter. Others have to pay a market price.
Recall, on May 24, the Hungarian authorities decided to introduce a state of emergency in the country due to the war in Ukraine.
