In the initial stage, we will talk about the screwdriver assembly of electric cars from car kits with subsequent localization deepening, sources said.
In Russia, Renault Moscow Automobile Plant could launch production of vehicles from KamAZ’s partner, Chinese automaker JAC, under the Moskvich brand. This was reported by Vedomosti on Thursday, May 19.
The fact that Chinese vehicles are localized at the Moscow Automobile Plant was told in the publication of two sources familiar with the company’s plans. According to one of them, KamAZ is in talks with its current partner, JAC. With the participation of the latest KamAZ, at the beginning of this year, the Compass light-duty truck was introduced to the market, which, in essence, is an engineering brand of Chinese JAC truck adapted to the realities of Russia.
It is planned to start production at the plant in Moscow no later than the fourth quarter of 2022 with cars with internal combustion engines, and then switch to electric cars.
According to the interlocutor of Vedomosti, KamAZ is considering the JAC iEVS4 electric car for localization in Moscow. In the initial stage, most likely, it will be a screwdriver assembly (SKD) of electric vehicles from car kits, followed by deepening of localization as production volume grows, says another source. The iEVS4 model has an analogue with a gasoline engine, made under the S4 index.
Recall that this week Russia took Renault’s assets into state ownership. These include part of the French concern AvtoVAZ and the Moscow-based car plant CJSC Renault Russia. It was announced that the last plant will produce passenger vehicles under the historic Moskvich brand.
